International driving permit (IDP)
International driving license (IDP) Slovenia
For non-EU citizens like those of the USA, Canada, Brazil, Japan, China, UAE, and so on an International driving permit is needed in order to drive in Europe and obviously Slovenia. An international driving permit is only a translation of your native driving permit. So you still have to have your national driving permit with you and present it together with the international to the officer. Otherwise, an international driving permit is not valid. Although some rental companies do not check your international driving permit, it is considered illegal if you don't have one and in case of an accident, some insurance companies will insist on seeing one. International driving permits are issued by your authorities. Usually, you need to fulfill their form, bring them your picture, bring them your native driving permit, your ID and you're good to go after payment of something around 20.00 USD or 25 CDN.
