✨ “What I Learned After Hosting Hundreds of Travelers in Two Countries”

Ljubljana Old Town

Ljubljana old town travel moment from a host’s perspective.

  1. What Travelers Taught Me Over the Years

If there is one thing that hosting hundreds of guests has taught me, it’s this: every traveler carries a story, and every story changes you a little.

From quiet mornings in Ljubljana to warm evenings on the Montenegrin coast, I’ve learned more about people, cultures, patience, and kindness than I ever expected when I opened the doors of my first apartment.

2. Why Details Matter for Every Guest?

It’s rarely the big features that guests mention first. It’s the warm lighting, the soft towels, the extra blanket, the handwritten welcome note, the simple instructions, the fast Wi-Fi that actually works.

These details matter — in Ljubljana and in Montenegro alike. And it reminded me that comfort is not luxury, but thoughtfulness.

3. Everyone arrives with different expectations

Some guests come to Ljubljana with itineraries planned down to the minute. Others land in Montenegro with no plan at all — just a swimsuit, sunglasses, and curiosity. Hosting taught me that my job isn’t to guess what people want, but to listen.

A quick chat, a question, or a simple “What are you in the mood for today?” Often leads to the perfect recommendation:

1. A quiet café by the river in Ljubljana,
2. A hidden beach near Budva,
3. A good restaurant in Podgorica.

4. Cleanliness is non-negotiable

No matter the country, season, or type of traveler — a clean apartment is the first “hello”. Hosting has made me obsessed with details: corners, handles, mirrors, balcony floors, and pillows fluffed just right.
People relax when the space feels fresh. And that feeling stays with them long after they leave.

5. Guests value honesty more than perfection

If the elevator is out, the street is lively, the weather is unpredictable — tell them. Guests appreciate transparency far more than a “perfect listing”. I’ve learned that honesty builds trust, and trust brings guests back.

6. Cultural differences are beautiful — and real

I’ve hosted people from every continent. Some remove shoes at the door, others don’t. Some love chatting, others prefer privacy. Some want silence, others arrive full of stories.

Hosting in two countries taught me to adapt quickly, and enjoy the variety that makes travel so rich.

7. Many travelers are unprepared for Slovenia & Montenegro

They underestimate:

  • how much there is to see

  • how much they’ll walk

  • how strong the sun is

  • how quickly weather changes in the mountains

  • how important hydration and good shoes are

So I started creating Travel Shop recommendations — items I use personally and know travelers appreciate.

**7. What I Love Most About Hosting?

The conversations.**

It’s not the bookings, not the check-ins, not even the beautiful locations. It’s the people — their laughter, questions, stories, memories, and excitement.

Hosting teaches you to be present. To see the world through someone else’s eyes — someone visiting Slovenia for the first time, or seeing the Montenegro coast at sunset.

Those moments are priceless.
